A visit to this Museum is recommended particularly now since a very large amount of money has been raised and spent upon a magnificent refurbishment.

The fabulous clockwork Silver Swan has been carefully conserved and is shown working at 2.00 p.m. each day.
CPRE members entering the Museum by car should note the fine wooden seat situated on the left hand side of the entrance road adjacent to the globe.
This seat has been placed there by CPRE in memory of the late Dr Ken Ashby, a former Chair person of the Durham Branch. The seat faces the Barningham Hills nearby where a Planning Application for a Wind Turbine cluster was defeated with significant input by Dr Ashby.

The Restaurant at the Museum has been extensively improved and refitted and uses locally grown produce in its dishes. The Chef is particularly keen to promote local foods in his menus.
